This full-scale landscape project transformed a typical suburban yard into a lush, naturalistic urban oasis designed entirely for family life and effortless outdoor entertaining. Located in California, the design prioritized creating distinct, functional zones that are unified by warm materials, soft planting, and a high-degree of usability. The result is a vibrant, inviting space that feels like a private, year-round retreat.

Features of the Urban Oasis

• Integrated Play Zone: The backyard features a custom-designed play area with a sandbox, a natural wood climbing structure, and a charming teepee tent, all nestled under shade trees to encourage imaginative play.
• Al Fresco Dining Pergola: A large, covered patio space with warm pavers is sheltered by a wood pergola, creating a dedicated, shaded spot for outdoor dining and entertaining right off the house.
• Productive Edible Garden: The design incorporates citrus trees and other fruit-bearing plants, blending edible landscaping into the overall aesthetic and connecting the family to nature.
• Naturalistic Layered Planting: The softscape features lush, layered greenery, including tall privacy hedges, flowering shrubs, and textured ground cover, providing depth and a sense of cozy enclosure.
• Warm Gathering Spots: Multiple small patios and decks, anchored by a modern fire pit (seen in the evening view), provide flexible spaces for adults to relax while supervising play or enjoying quiet evenings.
